Re:battery equalization on eGO Cycle2 - 2006/06/21 00:33
Good Question! Battery equalization is not so critical here and better quality chargers, like the one that comes with the Ego Cycle2 scooter, do include a balancing portion to the charging algorithm. In general, 85% of a charge cycle does the basic work of building the energy back up in the battery and the last bit balances the charge between the cells and finishes off with a trickle charge to bring the charge to 100% of what ever is the battery's charge capacity. Remember, older batteries will not have the same capacity to hold a charge as a newer ones. What you may be interested in, is a charger that that has a pulsing cycle that de-sulfates SLA batteries. This can go a long way to extend the life of better quality batteries. The downside: de-sulfating mediocre batteries does not guarantee an extended lifespan or ability to rescucitate dead batteries (you know, those 2-3 year old batteries that have sat in your garage uncharged for a year).
