eGo fades - 2006/07/16 22:44 My ego started to fade to a max speed of 12 mph after I drove it 7 miles in the Texas heat. It cooled down and gave no problems later that day on the same 7 mile ride back. (all Fast mode)
Then on Sunday after a 8 miles ride it did it again. stpped to eat , came out i hour later and Bike was fine. Rode about 3 miles, had to stop to adjust my Ipod ear pieces and left bike in "on" mode and when I took off three minutes later it did it again. 10 -12 mph. Jiggles the throttle wires going into the bike and it slowly picked up to 15mph , but actually cut out to 8 once or twice. OK I let it sit and went shopping , came back out and it was fine again. Dont think its wireing, Just think its Texas heat. Anyone have any similar items or heat related issues? Maybe a faulty component after it heats up?

sounds like it could be a battery cell problem to me. even a small voltage discrepancy between cells could be what's ailing you. what brand are your batteries? some of the older eGOs shipped with lesser quality batteries that many folks seem to have had problems with. (I think all the new batts are in green casings)
has your scooter ever 'shut off" on you for a time period to cool down? have you checked your brushes out to make sure they aren't all caked up and leading to an overheated motor? a carbonized brush could lead to power loss and overheating problems.

Re:eGo fades - 2006/07/17 18:00 when you pull out the motor you will see these circular caps around the base with a large slot for a flathead in them. these covers hold the brushes in. they are (loosely) spring mounted, and easily removed for cleaning/replacement.

what brand are your batteries?

the folks up at alien *know* what they are doing. I'm a chronic diy-er, but if you are not comfortable with any of these diagnostics you should just let those cats fix you up.

that being said, I can provide pics on cleaning your brushes if needed.

Re:eGo fades - 2006/07/17 19:47 Yeah the are all good people over there and I prob will get them to do it, but I havent even put 100 miles on this thing since I got it but if its something that need regular maint ( from the roads I drive etc) then I should learn how, So can you email those pics to me at dcurtis4@austin.rr.com
